How it Works

People helping people. That’s what it’s about.

Some dating sites will tell you that “all it takes is one date”—that you will look into each others eyes and just know you’ve found your soulmate, as if it were as simple as a trip to the shopping mall. If only life were that perfect. In the real world, things are more complicated. But maybe that’s the way it should be. We believe that searching for a relationship should not be like shopping for sneakers. It should be a creative process; collaborative, engaging, and reflective. It can be hard, yes, but if we understand and accept the challenges, it can also be more rewarding.

Strange Angels has a new approach. We acknowledge that for many (if not most) people, dating is a process. There are differences to bridge, doubts to conquer, fears to overcome, and even distances to travel. And although some people breeze through the process of online dating, many others find it daunting. The solution? We believe people should start helping each other out.

The Strange Angels difference:

  • We give people the tools to help each other as volunteer matchmakers. A matchmaker can serve as an advocate, can help compose a profile, offer feedback, can enable anonymity by screening messages, and generally be there as a friend. You can sign up as a matchmaker, if you like. Anyone can.
  • We offer a blog that delves into the topics of love, dating, relationships, gender issues, and sexuality with a depth and honesty unparalleled on the web.
  • We host live events that go beyond “speed dating,” giving you the chance to get to know people in new and interesting ways, and expand your social capital to increase your chances of meeting someone special.
  • We are working hard to build a community of thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent, conscientious people who believe we are all in this together.

For us, this is a grassroots effort. When you join Strange Angels, you are not just getting access to database—you are becoming a part of a team committed to helping people find what they’re looking for.

We just officially launched in September 2012, and need you to help us build our community. If you are tired of the shallowness of other dating sites and want to be in a place where you are respected, please join us and help us get off the ground.
